Panthère de Cartier online campaign shot by Sofia Coppola

Sofia Coppola does Cartier with an Australian twist

Why Sofia Coppola is the ultimate auteur to bring the revamped Panthère de Cartier range to life

Growing up in the peculiar world of Hollywood, surrounded by a family of filmmakers and actors has afforded Sofia Coppola a world view like no other. It's also lent her films a particular mood and aesthetic - from the dreamy suburban landscape of The Virgin Suicides to the ironic detachment in Lost in Translation. In recent years, her output has focused on the LA bubble, with films Somewhere and The Bling Ring featuring Californians at odds with their environment.

Handpicked by Coppola specially, Courtney's youth and vitality make her the quintessential Cartier girl. "I remembered meeting Courtney Eaton at a casting for a film, she just has charm and naturalness," says Coppola of her casting choice. It's high praise indeed, considering Coppola's female-focused oeuvre and her recent Best Director win at the Cannes Film Festival. (We also can't wait to see her upcoming feature The Beguiled).

"When the Panthère watch came out in 1983, there were so many great movies, and I love the stars of that time," says Coppola. "I remember the glamourous kind of women who wore a Panthère watch... The Panthère woman is elegant, sophisticated, chic and glamourous, still sexy and fun." Watch the new Panthère de Cartier online campaign shot by Sofia Coppola below:
