Johnny Depp's first film in three years to open Cannes Film Festival

The historical drama Jeanne Du Barry' starring Johnny Depp will open the Cannes Film Festival in 2023. It is reported by Variety. In the film, the actor played the role of King Louis XV. This is Johnny Depp's first film in three years.

The film is based on real events and tells the story of Countess Jeanne Dubarry, mistress of King Louis XV. Dubarry was from the lower class and, with the help of her wits and charm, climbed the social ladder and won the favor of the king. According to the plot of the film, the king, unaware that she was a courtesan, with her help regains his passion for life and elevates Dubarry. The film was directed by Maiwenn Le Besco, who also played the role of Jeanne Dubarry.

Variety notes that at the time of filming, Johnny Depp spoke little to no French, and wonders if he can portray the right accent. The film will premiere on May 16th. The Cannes Film Festival this year will take place from 16 to 23 May.

Johnny Depp's career was put on hold due to litigation with his ex-wife Amber Heard. The actress accused Johnny Depp of domestic violence, which led to the loss of contracts, the actor was no longer offered roles in films. After he won the court, his career took off again .

Previously, Depp also presented a series of celebrity paintings, including reggae star Bob Marley, writer Hunter S. Thompson, actors Heath Ledger and River Phoenix. His work has been featured at the Castle Fine Art Gallery in London's Covent Garden.
