A trailer for a new documentary project about transgender teenagers, which will air on October 17, has appeared online. This film is the result of a collaboration between MTV and Logo.

Logo is a cable TV channel “for LGBT people and their friends,” as it describes itself. They have a common owner with MTV - the media conglomerate Viacom Media Networks. The viewership of Logo, despite its seemingly specific “niche,” is very large: it is watched not only by representatives of the queer community. It is Logo that produces and broadcasts one of the most popular American reality shows, “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” in which drag queen artists compete for the crown of the winner.

The new film is hosted by actress Laverne Cox, and it's called appropriately: "Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word." The title is a clear allusion to the famous lesbian series “The L Word.” However, this documentary is dedicated to another part of the LGBT acronym.

Cox gained fame thanks to her participation in the popular series “Orange is the New Black.” In it, she plays the role of a transgender woman, Sofia, who found herself behind bars for fraud with credit cards: in a similar way, Sofia raised money for a gender reassignment operation. Actually, all the heroines of “Orange...” are prisoners, since it talks about a women’s prison. Laverne is the first ever openly transgender actress to be nominated for television's highest honor, the Emmy Awards.

In the film's trailer, Cox promises viewers an insight into the lives of seven brave young trans people who often face dangerous obstacles, especially during the difficult process of self-identification.

October 17 was not chosen for the premiere by chance: the day before, the United States will celebrate the traditional Spirit Day, dedicated to the fight against bullying and intimidation of young representatives of the LGBT community. facebook-white sharing button Share
