Linda Evangelista told how she hid the consequences of an unsuccessful procedure for five years

Supermodel Linda Evangelista admitted that she was disfigured five years ago as a result of complications after a fat removal procedure. She underwent repeated surgeries, but they were unsuccessful, and her life turned into hell. Why the cryolipolysis procedure that Linda Evangelista underwent is dangerous and why it did not fit her? 90s catwalk star Linda Evangelista has finally explained to her fans why she has disappeared from the public eye. In an Instagram post titled “True, My Story,” the 56-year-old supermodel revealed that her appearance has changed beyond recognition after the CoolSculpting procedure aimed at reducing fatty tissue. She remained "forever deformed."

“Today I took a big step towards correcting the mistake that I endured and hid from myself for more than five years,” wrote Evangelista. - For my subscribers who are wondering why I do not work, while the career of my colleagues is flourishing, I explain. I was severely disfigured by the CoolSculpting procedure from Zeltiq (an American company that licenses cosmetic devices. - Gazeta.Ru), which had the opposite effect.

" CoolSculpting, or cryolipolysis, is a non-surgical technique for removing localized fat deposits. It is based on the sensitivity of fat cells to low temperatures. Under their influence, they are destroyed, and the patient feels a slight tingling sensation.

“The effect of the procedure is not immediately visible,” Tatyana Ponomareva , a physiotherapist at the Premium Aesthetics clinic of aesthetic medicine, tells Gazeta.Ru. "It grows during the first month, and the final result can be estimated in 2-3 months."

This is due to the fact that fat cells are excreted from the body naturally. Thanks to the procedure, the fat mass can be reduced by 20-40%.

However, for the supermodel, everything went the other way around. According to her, her fat only increased. Those photos of Evangelists confirm this fact. Linda has not appeared in public for many years, one of the last public appearances took place in 2015.

“The procedure increased, not decreased, my fat cells. It left me permanently deformed even after two corrective surgeries, which were extremely painful and unsuccessful. I became, according to the media, simply "unrecognizable", - the ex-supermodel complains.

Evangelista stated that after the procedure she developed "paradoxical fatty hyperplasia" (PAH). The patient was not warned about this side effect.

Yulia Melnikova, dermatovenerologist, cosmetologist of the Atlas clinic network, explains that paradoxical fatty hyperplasia is the growth of adipose tissue in the area of cold exposure. It repeats the shape of the applicator of the cosmetic device and appears 2-3 months after the procedure. The doctor notes that the mechanisms of PAH are still poorly understood.

According to the manufacturer of cryolipolysis equipment, PAG occurs in one case in 4 thousand patients - these data are quoted by ScienceDaily. As a rule, this side effect is corrected by liposuction, which is carried out after six months or a year.

Physiotherapist Tatyana Ponomareva believes that the Evangeliste procedure might not have been shown in general. This had to be decided on an individual examination.

“Either Linda has not changed her eating and physical activity habits,” the specialist believes in an interview with Gazeta.Ru. “Thanks to the procedure, only part of the fat cells is destroyed, and the rest can increase in volume due to hypercaloric nutrition.”

According to Tatyana Ponomareva, attempts to solve problems with excess weight with the help of cryolipolysis are doomed to failure. For this procedure to be effective, the patient must first lose weight by adjusting the diet and exercise regime, and then correct problem areas using the procedure. Also, the result depends on the quality of the adipose tissue. The denser the fat, the more difficult it is to achieve the desired effect.

Cryolipolysis helps to get rid of "fat traps" located in the breeches, on the outer and inner thighs, on the abdomen, the back of the shoulder, explains the physiotherapist. It is in these places that the body lays a "stash" for a rainy day.

The main side effects of the cryolipolysis procedure, Yulia Melnikova refers to conditions such as "erythema, bruising, changes in sensitivity and pain." “In most cases, they go away on their own in a couple of days after the procedure,” the doctor says.

Linda Evangelista was completely frank with her fans, talking about the "deep depression" in which she has been since the procedure.

“Paradoxical fatty hyperplasia not only destroyed my livelihood, but also made me feel deeply depressed, sad and self-loathing. In the process, I became a recluse, ”the model admitted.

She filed a lawsuit against a clinic in which she underwent an unsuccessful operation to break down fat. According to Evangelista, this helped her "move forward, get rid of shame and tell about herself."

“I'm so tired of living this way,” says Linda. "I would like to leave the house with my head held high, despite the fact that I no longer look like myself."

Many of her former colleagues responded in the comments under the supermodel's post. Words of support were written by models Natalia Vodianova , Cindy Crawford , Helena Christensen and Naomi Campbell , designers Jeremy Scott and Marc Jacobs and thousands of others who are not indifferent.
